Biox Medical was founded by three people: a GP, an NHS innovation specialist and a microbiologist. What brought them together was Dr Chun Tang's family. He lost his father to bowel cancer, diagnosed at stage four. His brother, at just 35, was misdiagnosed and dismissed many times until he collapsed.
In 2019, Dr Tang, Dr Clara Weisshaar and Prof. Dr. Maria-Paz Weisshaar, who has worked with the developers of the ColoAlert technology since 2008, co-founded Biox Medical together to bring non-invasive, next-generation screening to the UK. Our consumer brand, MeCheck, makes the same tests available to people at home.

Screening people without symptoms is how cancers get found before they spread. That means more time with the people who matter.
ColoAlert (biovis Test Set 920) is a stool-based bowel cancer screening test made by biovis Diagnostik MVZ GmbH in Germany. It combines immunochemical testing for haemoglobin and haptoglobin with qPCR analysis of KRAS, BRAF and hDNA in a single sample. It is for adults aged 45+ without bowel symptoms. It is a screening test, not a diagnosis: an abnormal result needs colonoscopy, and a normal result does not exclude bowel cancer.
Test Set 920 (ColoAlert) is manufactured by biovis as an in-house medical device under Regulations (EU) 2017/745 and 2017/746, and the collection tube is CE-IVD marked. Samples are analysed at biovis in Limburg-Eschhofen, Germany, a laboratory accredited to DIN EN ISO 15189. Our other products are supplied under their manufacturers' own conformity arrangements.
Any abnormal result is reviewed and discussed free of charge by a GP. Tests bought through MeCheck are reported by Northwest Health Ltd, a CQC-registered clinic; tests supplied through a partner clinic are reported by that clinic. An abnormal result means further investigation is needed, usually colonoscopy, and we will advise on how to arrange it.
Some policies may reimburse screening tests, but many exclude routine screening in people without symptoms. Please check with your insurer before ordering.
